What an incredible night! The Asian Heritage Society of Manitoba was honoured to attend Magdaragat Philippines Inc.'s 50th Anniversary Celebration — a truly spectacular milestone for one of Winnipeg's most treasured cultural organizations.
Since 1976, Magdaragat — meaning "voyagers of the seas" — has been bringing the vibrant spirit of Filipino culture to life through traditional folk dance, ballet, jazz, hip hop, martial arts, theatre, music, and more. Founded by Dante C. Buenaventura, the group has spent five decades creating brilliantly colourful and unforgettable experiences for audiences across Manitoba.
Magdaragat holds a very special place in our hearts — they were one of the very first organizations to perform for the Asian Heritage Society of Manitoba during Asian Heritage Month, helping introduce the beauty of Filipino culture to our wider community. It was only fitting that we celebrate this incredible 50-year journey with them.
We are especially grateful that this milestone celebration took place during Asian Heritage Month — a time dedicated to honouring the stories, contributions, and cultures of Asian communities across Canada. There is no better way to celebrate the month than witnessing 50 years of passion, artistry, and community come together on one stage.
Congratulations to the entire Magdaragat family on this remarkable achievement. Here's to 50 more years of storytelling, movement, and community! 🎉🇵🇭
Salamat — thank you for sharing your culture, your joy, and your heart with all of us. 🙏
